Iran state TV shows footage of US sailor 'apologizing'

DUBAI (Reuters) -- Iranian state television on Wednesday released footage of a detained U.S. sailor in which he is quoted in translation into Farsi as apologizing for his patrol boat having entered Iranian territorial waters in the Gulf by mistake.

Sounds like something North Korea would do, if the North Koreans had T.V's....

But, back on topic... Adrianna Cohen, of The Boston Herald, sums it up nicely.

‘Legacy’ of one comes at cost of security of many

Adriana Cohen Wednesday, January 13, 2016

While President Obama painted rainbows about his foreign policy “achievements” in his final State of the Union address, Iran seized two U.S. Navy vessels and took 10 American sailors hostage.

What irony. The weakness of this administration was once again the real story.

“This is a deliberate insult to President Obama — the length of time involved so far without the crews and ships being released shows at a minimum that some elements of the Ayatollahs’ regime are trying to exploit this,” former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton told me. “And these are the people we expect to adhere to the Vienna nuclear deal? They have been violating it since before the ink was dry.”

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, meanwhile, tweeted about the White House's "Big Block of Cheese Day" yesterday.

    Take that, Iran.

But what can we expect from an administration that’s made a colossal mess of our nation’s foreign policy, making the world a much more dangerous place.

Kerry and Obama looked the other way when Iran violated U.N. security resolutions by launching ballistic missiles with no consequence.

They exhibited zero profiles in courage when they failed to negotiate the release of four other American hostages who’ve been held captive in Iranian prisons — while handing Iran $150 billion in relieved sanctions in exchange for a false sense of security when it comes to its nuclear proliferation program.

They’ve looked the other way when Iran boasted of its “nuclear developments” while its top officials lead “Death to America” rallies.

But never mind all that, because President Obama is invested in his so-called “legacy,” that if told right, will yield him tens of millions of dollars in future post-presidency speaking fees and memoirs.

Sadly, the joke’s on us. Iran seized the patrol boats, yet all President Obama cared about last night was his self-serving legacy.

But who needs inconvenient facts when that “legacy” and “narrative” are all that matter?

    ------------

And today's editorial from the Herald.

    Editorial: ‘Rescued’ or captured?

The only reason those sailors were freed is that Obama is going to be paying Iran $100 billion in a week. That's "billion" with a "B."

Iran needs that money so it can develop nukes.

    Yeah, yeah, crank.

You were one of the whining little bitches, ready to set fire to George Bush when you saw pictures of ragheads being humiliated at Abu Ghraib. But now our sailors are being dressed in rags and forced to do humiliating propaganda pieces, and you're right out front saying "yeah, so what."

    jackass.

Tell me this, jackass: how about this for an alternate scenario?

Iran coast guard boat hails U.S. patrol boats: Attention USS captain, looks like you're in distress. Can we assist?

USS Captain: Thanks very much for the offer, Captain; we apologize for drifting. Engine trouble.

Iran coast guard boat: Say no more. Should we request a tug?

USS Captain: Thanks but no thanks, we've already hailed assistance.

Iran coast guard boat: Very good. You're in Iranian waters, so we'll stay and monitor until you're on your way.

USS Captain: Understandable, and thanks Captain.

Iran coast guard boat: Very good; contact if you need further assistance or evac.

USS Captain: Thanks, will do, over and out.

Given that Barry Soetoru in his infinite wisdom has handed Iran the means to nuke Israel, I think they could be just a little bit more cordial.

Hey asshole remember what Geoge Bush did when our EP-3 was forced to land on Hainan Island? Do you remember the Chinese holdin our sailors alot longer than 24 hours? That they forced us to pay the costs of keeping our sailors? Our letter of apology? That we were not allowed to repair the aircraft on site and had to have it shipped back to the US?

The Iranians did not blow our ships out of their territorial waters, the detained two armed vessels that were there illegally.

Iran used chemical weapons against Iraq, it has never used them or even given them to Hamas for use against Israel. Let them have nukes, Israel will wipe them out. Israel does have the right to exist, but they are no ally of ours.

And just look at all the productive ways they're spending it.

    *not_secure_link*www.bostonherald.c...krauthammer_us_foes_on_march_so_o_visits_cuba

    2/28/16

Last Thursday, Iran received its first shipment of S-300 anti-aircraft batteries from Russia, a major advance in developing immunity to any attack on its nuclear facilities. And it is negotiating an $8 billion arms deal with Russia that includes sophisticated combat aircraft. Like its ballistic missile tests, this conventional weapons shopping spree is a blatant violation of U.N. Security Council prohibitions. It was also a predictable — and predicted — consequence of the Iran nuclear deal that granted Iran $100 billion and normalized its relations with the world.

    The U.S. response? Words.

Iran: We'll give cash to families of Palestinians who died 'as martyrs in Jerusalem'

    2/25/16

Iran has announced plans to pay the families of Palestinians who died in protests or conflict with Israelis, and pay an annual stipend to families whose homes were demolished by Israeli forces.

Comments from ambassador Mohammad Fathali came at a news conference in Beirut a day after the homes of two Palestinians were demolished. The pair were apparently responsible for the deaths of five people in the West Bank.

"The decision firstly includes giving an amount worth $7,000 (£5,028) to every family of a martyr of the intifada in Jerusalem," Fathali said, according to Reuters.

The Islamic Republic will also provide "$30,000 to every family whose home the occupation (Israel) has demolished for the participation of one of its sons" in street violence.

His comments come following a string of incidents in the past month – including the shooting by Israeli forces of a 14-year old Palestinian girl who attempted to stab a border guard in Hebron and the killing of two Palestinian teenagers shot by Israeli forces in the West Bank, purportedly for throwing rocks at their vehicles.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, 175 Palestinians have been killed in violence in the occupied territories since October 2015, with 25 Israelis, one Palestinian and two foreign nationals killed by Palestinians during the same period.

There are fears in Israel that an increase in 'lone wolf' and seemingly random knife attacks by Palestinians could be leading to a third uprising.

The Iranian ambassador's comments were criticised by the Israeli Foreign Ministry as they 'demonstrate again Iran's role in encouraging terror."

It said: "Following the [international] nuclear agreement [thatTehran signed with six world powers last year], Iran continues to be a major player in international terror."
